Our Best of 2023 Wrap-up and Travel Awards

2023 was a year with plenty of new adventures, laughter and joy. Maybe we didn’t do our best when it came to writing about our travels but we will share some highlights here in our Best of 2023 year end wrap-up. Looking forward to more sisbehaving and shenanigans in 2024! Best Moments Most Sisbehaving Moment Little Sister – Sometimes, the best things seem to happen out of the blue. We were sitting at a fantastic outdoor café in Salzburg.  We had seen this bachelorette party earlier in the day taking photos at Mirabell Palace, then suddenly there they were 3 hours later, drunk, walking through Altstadt in their matching T-shirts…

Paros – A Perfect Paradise in the Cyclades

While island hopping around the Cyclades in Greece with my friend Kelli, the second stop was Paros. In building the itinerary, Mykonos and Santorini felt obligatory, but Paros was a well-researched decision. With its bougainvillea-draped walkways, beautiful views and easy pace, it was my favorite stop of all! Leaving Mykonos As promised in the last post, I’ll start with the ugly – the ferry terminal in Mykonos. It was horrible! We had booked a mid-morning ferry to Paros but it was running late (like they tend to do). This part was not a big deal, but we got to the ferry terminal and there were swarms of people. We surely…

Mykonos – Overhyped Destination or Not to be Missed?

After a surprisingly wonderful couple of days in Athens, it was time for Kelli and I to set sail (or ferry) for Mykonos. Mykonos would be the first of 3 Cyclades island destinations. When we created our itinerary, we were skeptical about dedicating time to Mykonos because it gets such mixed reviews. Many travel bloggers say to skip it, it’s crowded, touristy and overhyped. Others list is as one of their favorites for it’s beauty, activities and nightlife (after all, it is the most visited of the islands). Well we weren’t looking for nightlife but we could not skip it either…so one night it was! How to Get From Athens…

Athens – More Than a Stepping Stone to the Greek Islands

Athens is the entry point to Greece for most travelers, but after this trip, I will tell you…it should be more than a stepping off point. Athens was a wonderful city. So much history, architecture, art and food!! You remember my travel buddy, Kelli, from our Epic Utah Road trip?  Well, we are back with a much grander trip.  This time, Greece! We started off in Athens for a short stop before setting sail (or ferry, as the case may be) to Mykonos, Paros and Santorini. Athens Kelli and I are both planners and this always works out so well.  You know how you hear about friends where one is…

Our Best of 2022 Wrap Up and Travel Awards

2022 was a fantastic travel year for each of us – both together and separately. Unfortunately, I think we will find as we write this that many of our favorites were not with each other and that makes me a bit sad. But let’s celebrate the adventure, fun, laughs and joy in our Best of 2022 while pledging to do better in 2023! Best Moments Most Sisbehaving Moment Little Sister – Fat Girl in a little safe. One of the best laughs ever.  Because leave it to me to be completely oblivious to the fact there’s other people on this planet with me, as I start singing to myself, not…

Christmas on the Rhine – Cruising into the Holiday Spirit

Is anyone else still trying to take their Covid-canceled trips? I wish I could say that this Viking Cruise was the last of mine, but sadly I have one more to go. Booking our Christmas on the Rhine Viking River Cruise Our mom and I had originally booked the “In Search of Northern Lights” ocean voyage for January 2022. When that was canceled, our credits had to be used by January 2023 and with our schedules, we needed to book something in late autumn – hence, the Christmas on the Rhine. The European Christmas Markets had long been in my plans and this really seemed like an ideal way to…

Iao Valley State Park – One of the Best Experiences On Maui

Maybe this isn’t a secret, maybe it was just me who was in the dark? In all of my previous trips to Maui, I had never heard of Iao Valley State Park. But this might be the most easily accessible, most stunningly beautiful spot on the island. When you plan a trip to Maui, you do your research, you plan your excursions. If it is your first trip you’ll likely do Haleakala or the Road to Hana. Definitely some whale watching, snorkeling and sunset cruises. Maybe just hanging at the beach or exploring the beach towns is your thing. I thought I’d done all of the must-be-seen sights on previous…

Singapore Layover – Get Out and See Some Amazing Sights

One of the most common routes from North America to Southeast Asia runs through Singapore’s Airport, Changi (SIN). So if you find an option to fly through Singapore, take the opportunity to book an extended layover! Changi International Airport in Singapore is consistently ranked by travelers as a favorite, with good reason. It has been named Best Airport in the World by multiple publications (Conde Nast, Travel & Leisure, Business Traveler and more), multiple years. In fact, the current award count is 649! Singapore Changi Airport If your Singapore layover is less than 6 hours, best to stay put and enjoy the amenities the airport has to offer. Changi amenities…

Maui Helicopter Tour – Possibly the Best Thing I’ve Ever Done

A helicopter flight had long been on my bucket list. To make it really “worth it”, it had to be someplace stunningly beautiful and inaccessible by ground transportation. So when my daughter asked us to come to Hawaii with them this spring, I knew the time had come. I was booking a Maui Helicopter Tour! Researching Maui Helicopter Tours As usual, you know I did my research! There are a few helicopter tour operators and they each offer multiple destinations and durations. With a perfect safety record, fantastic reviews and Maui’s only doors-off helicopter, I opted for Air Maui Helicopter Tours. The doors-off helicopter really sold this for me. If…

Dublin, Deadly Fun (and that’s a good thing)

“When I die Dublin will be written in my heart”, James Joyce Dublin has always been a dream. However, in doing my research, not everyone is keen on the Dublin experience. Of course you hear this about many capital cities; Paris, London and Rome come to mind. Many travel bloggers turn up their noses and prefer to head out to other destinations around Ireland. Others love this city. I needed to find out for myself. Arriving in Dublin I arrived in Dublin via train after an exhilarating but exhausting day exploring Belfast. I had planned to grab a taxi to the hotel, Aloft Dublin City in the Liberties. But when…
