5 Things You Need to Know to Endure a Category 1 Hurricane

So you booked a trip during Caribbean Hurricane Season? We thought we were in the clear, but in late October, you can’t be too sure. Follow these tips and you can “comfortably” get through a Category 1! Sister side note (ssn) – this is known as pre-hurricane ley seca (dry law) and it sucks! Ley Seca is also in effect for election day (yikes!!) and the 24 hours leading up to it! America wouldn’t survive! 2. When Mexico says essential workers only, they damn well mean it.  No bars, no restaurants, no 7-11.  Essential to them means police and emergency workers only (unless you are at a touristy resort, then…

Bayfield WI and The Apostle Islands – Discover These Hidden Gems

The Apostle Islands consistently make the list of Best Places to see in the US.  Located at the Southern end of Lake Superior in Bayfield, Wisconsin, the Apostle Islands are a group of 21 small islands. All but one island are uninhabited. Therefore, there are tons of hiking and camping opportunities in Bayfield and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.  Yes, it’s a National Park, so bring your National Park Pass and National Park passport for this stamp! From Duluth to Bayfield We left Duluth (see previous day’s adventure here) for Bayfield after an amazing breakfast at The Duluth Grill.  Ok, seriously, a little hometown breakfast joint that has a side…

Exploring Along the Way from St. Paul to Duluth

St. Paul, Duluth, and some Minnesota countryside I love wake-ups in hotel rooms, soft beds, downy pillows, and hopefully a big fluffy comforter.  All that combined with knowing I don’t have to make that bed always makes for a great day.  Then just throw in getting up for a little early sisbehaving and you have for a recipe for a perfect day. We had decided that two days in Minneapolis (check out previous days one & two) was probably enough and we had more to see and explore. So for day three we were hitting up St. Paul, the gorgeous twin sister of Minneapolis and then heading north to Duluth…

Minneapolis – Highlights, Fun and Signs of Hope

Time to Explore Minneapolis After a successful Day 1 in Minneapolis, this is the part where the realization of traveling during a pandemic fully hits us, the search for an open coffee shop. We went on a bit of a quest, unsuccessfully walking to three spots listed as open. At a corner, we were fortunate enough to be stopped by a gentleman who observed our touristy state. He gave us a quick personal story about standing on the balcony during the Foshay Building Grand Opening when he was 3 (Foshay! That’s fun to say). He then told us that if we stand on the opposite street corner it was the…

Minneapolis – Introduction to a Surprisingly Vibrant City

Minneapolis – Our first travel adventure during COVID-19 Back in February 2020 I signed up for a yoga training that I had been trying to schedule for over a year. I was so excited to have a weekend available to finally get this training done. However, it was in Minneapolis, not exactly a booming vacation destination from my bucket list. I was going for business reasons though, so flights were booked and Peggy decided she would meet me there to explore “Up North”. Sister Side Note (ssn) – In my comprehensive travel list, part of it came from “The 24 Most Breathtaking Places in the US”. Apostle Islands National Lakeshore…

Epic 5-day Utah and Northern Arizona Road Trip

Even though we sometimes refer to it as the Epic Utah Road Trip, we actually spent a couple of days in Page, Arizona and experienced some truly incredible sights. So shout out to Arizona, I don’t mean to minimize your contributions! Utah was not a sister trip, although I always wish she was with me. This is a Peggy-trip with my travel-buddy Kelli. She and I have been all over Colorado and Kentucky and she is the perfect travel partner (#adventuresofkelandpeg). Same pace, same music, mandatory car snacks, pull over at every single scenic overlook, and never any judgement about morning mimosas or lack of hair washing. Kelli is from…

    3 Incredible Days in Edinburgh

While planning a family trip to London for the American Football NFL UK series (Go Seahawks!), I decided that it would be irresponsible not to bop over to Edinburgh for a few days before the rest of the family arrived. Scotland has always been on our list and our great-grandmother was born there so it was even more special. Getting There Mombehaving and I flew into Heathrow and took the train from London to Edinburgh. London’s public transportation system made this an easy maneuver – we took the Tube from Heathrow to King’s Cross and left from there. I bought the train tickets on Rail Europe ahead of time and…

3 Incredible Days on Nusa Penida

Nusa Penida is a quieter, less modernized version of Bali. You can do a day trip or take a few days and bask in the relaxing vibe and astounding beauty. Patti is a yoga teacher who had been to Bali previously but was leading her first retreat in 2019.  The retreat was 7 days (click here for more information on her retreats) and was packed full of cultural excursions and spiritual healing that checked a lot of our Bali wish lists. This was her first year, so Peggy attended the retreat to lend a little moral support. We extended our trip an extra week for a some sister time and…

Iceland Stopover – Highlights of Reykjavik

The last day of our Iceland Stopover was spent in Reykjavik, just wandering and enjoying this charming, vibrant city. If you haven’t yet, catch up with Iceland Stopover Day 1 and Day 2. We stayed at a cute little apartment AirBnB in Reykjavik with these amazingly cozy down comforters, perfect for your girl fighting the cold, and perfect for hitting downtown first thing in the morning for coffee. I had been eyeballing Café Babalu since our layover in Iceland on the way to England, and it did not disappoint. Very eclectic décor, amazing coffee, and a full menu for breakfast.  But we took our lattes to go because we had…

Iceland Stopover – Day Trip to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon

Iceland Stopover Day 2 – Exploring the southern coast of Iceland The drive along South Iceland has some big hitters as far as what you come to see on an Iceland Stopover. Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, Geysir, and the black sand beaches and lots of waterfalls. A day of driving After an incredible Iceland Stopover Day 1, we begrudgingly left our wonderful Airbnb house early. So early that even the coffee shop wasn’t open. We anticipated a full day of driving with plans to get as far as Vik, hike some waterfalls along the way, see Geysir and then return to spend our last night in Reykjavik. The weather…
