My daughter and I went there this Summer. We went to Haleakala for sunset. It. Was. Amazing!!!
We also did the Road to Hana. 53 miles in 12 hours. Take a zanex or Valium for the drive. Roads are CRAZY!!! Definitely worth the drive for what we saw. The Black Sand Beach was unmatched. The best restaurant we ended our trip with was Mama’s Fish House. Reservations only and they are booked at least 3 months in advance. I lucked out and checked about 4 o’clock and got 8:30 reservations!!!! Most amazing restaurant, food, atmosphere…EVER!
If you ever go back to Hawaii…go to Kauai. You will never want to leave!!!!

My husband and I go to Maui for the month of January every year. I initially had to talk him into going the first time but he fell in love with the island and we stay in the same condo in Kihei every year. I am surprised you said the ocean was cold because we find the temperature perfect and swim in it everyday. The delicious food choices are endless, the beaches are fantastic and with the trade winds the temperature is spot on.

You certainly got some wonderful views from up on high and the pics are stunning. I never had the Hawaiian Islands on my list to go and see, although some of my American friends go there often and sing its praises. I’ve always imagined the islands to be less green than your pics show – how wrong I was. If those sights are to be seen,then maybe I should reconsider it. The info on where to eat is great

In reply to Paul (Paul Passing Through). I've always had the same attitude towards Maui that you described and consequently have never been. But I'm always in search of great food and great views, and who doesn't love beach time, So perhaps Maui has at least moved onto my list.

Well done on getting up so early to catch the sunrise. Looks like it was definitely worth it. Also, that South Maui Fish Company marlin would be right up my street. Don’t think I’ve ever tried marlin.

Ohh my that’s unrise. Haven’t been to Maui yet only Oahu but it looks amazing. Also that dinner at morimoto sounded amazing. Sounds like you had an amazing trip.
