Santa Fe – Day Drinking in this Charming Southwestern City
Sometimes life just isn’t going your way, and you need to step back and re-evaluate things. That’s exactly what I was doing: isolating and recovering from life at my sister’s. And that’s when she said, “Why don’t we just go to Santa Fe for the weekend?” Now, I have never been to Santa Fe. I’ve never been to New Mexico, not even on a drive through to get to somewhere else. So I was all for this idea. Plus, it was only a 4-hour drive from Peggy’s house, so why not? This was a pretty quick decision with only 3 days until departure, unlike our usual months of research and…

Reno – Biggest Little (Day Drinking) City in the World
Road Trip, Reno and Rod Stewart…Epic plan, right? Yeah, this was one of those “out-there” ideas we came up with, that turned into a fantastic reality. We decided we needed to see Rod Stewart in concert before there were no more chances left. And sure, he was playing in Seattle and Denver (near where we each live), but why would we make this an easy night to remember when we could make it an epic weekend? Rod was playing in Reno the weekend after we had planned to do the North Cascades National Park in Northern Washington State. So, Peggy could just come home with me, work remotely for the…

Denver Speakeasy Guide – Secrets of the Mile High Bar Scene
You know we love a good speakeasy! However, there has been a concerning trend of places calling themselves speakeasies that really are not. Or they may use a descriptor of “speakeasy vibes” in order to show up in a Google search. Our requirements to be considered a true speakeasy include a secret entrance or at least hidden out of plain sight. And if you have a challenge to get in, we are all on board. Give us a password or a “must know” secret way to gain entry and we are in! (See Las Vegas Speakeasy Guide for our favorite entry to a speakeasy to date) The Best Speakeasy in…

Salzburg: Alive With More Than the Sound of Music
I’m finding it truly difficult to put into words how much I loved Salzburg. A few days ago, when we arrived in Innsbruck, it was love almost instantly but then we arrived in Salzburg, we hardly remembered Innsbruck existed. These are a few of our favorite things Your Best Tip for Salzburg Get the Salzburg card. I wish every major city would do this. You can buy the Salzburg card in 24, 48, and 72-hour increments. You can get one at the major transportation hubs, online, or at your hotel. It is a pre-paid access card to all the major tourist attractions, museums, and public transportation (including the fantastic concert…

Sister Trip – Tampa to Key West – Day 1
For years we discussed Key West. It was the Mecca. After Running Scared (movie, Billy Crystal, Google it) in our teenage years, and Jimmy Buffett in our 20’s and beyond, we always talked about the “someday” of Key West. A few years ago we committed to it for Peggy’s 50th birthday, a full-on bucket list style sister trip. And it finally happened. In 2019, my big sister turned 50 and we were Key West bound. Planning our pilgrimage Only it couldn’t be a simple trip. Oh, hell no! Have you met my sister? First she had to take on a list 50 things to do before 50. And then she…

Being roughly 94 square miles in size, and 1.8 million in population, it means that it is overwhelmingly large. You can barely scratch the surface even after multiple days on multiple visits. Ipoh: Malaysia’s Enchanting City of Heritage and Natural Beauty
If you are joining us mid-trip, this is stop number two, Ipoh (pronounced Ee-poh). Our itinerary was 2 nights in Kuala Lumpur, 1 night in Ipoh, 2 nights in Penang, 1 night in Langkawi and 1 final night in Kuala Lumpur. We grabbed a ride from mydaytrip.com in the afternoon and had a lovely 2 hour drive to Ipoh. Ipoh is the fourth largest city in Malaysia and is about 2 1/4 hours north of Kuala Lumpur and south east of Penang. The most common way to get to Ipoh is by train. The train schedule didn’t match up with our wants and needs, so we decided to hire a…
